The second generation of one of Canon’s most popular professional lenses, the EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II delivers outstanding improvements in image quality, functionality and performance to meet and exceed the needs of professional and enthusiast photographers. The lens’s completely redesigned optical structure now features an improved 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer to reduce the effects of visible camera shake on long-distance shots, with three IS modes tailored to most typical shooting conditions, while Canon’s pioneering ring-type Ultrasonic Motor provides fast, silent autofocusing. Replacing previous linear type zoom construction, the new rotation type zoom ring enables improved handling for minute adjustments and excellent balance throughout the zoom range. Designed to be used anywhere, even in the harshest conditions, the lens continues the renowned L-series lens DNA and rugged construction. You can rely on the lens to perform in vastly challenging environments, with a dust and water-resistant construction providing the durability users demand. For added endurance, the lens features fluorine coatings on the front and rear lens elements, reducing the possibility of dirt sticking to the lens surface and affecting image quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lens Even the Second Time Around I bought one of these lenses 2.5 years ago and it was outstanding, I say was because this and my 5D Mk3 were waterlogged and they both died a watery death. A new 5D Mk4 ensued but, I immediately bought another of these lenses, I just couldn't do without it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A really versatile long lens I've had a few of the version 100-400 V1 lenses over the years and was excited when the V2 was announced. I certainly want disappointed, providing me super convenience and remarkable image quality for such a lens. I'd recommend it without hesitation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great focal range especially for travel photograph The focal range of this lens is just perfect for anyone who is seriously into travel photography. Even when shooting wide open it is as sharp as a tack especially when using the image stabiliser.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This lens replaced my f 2.8 70-200 I purchased this 100-400mm lens because I wanted to ‘get in close’ and be able to select just part of the landscape and abstract it. I do a lot of travel photography and I wanted a lens that would be good for portraits as well as photograph wildlife and festivals if needed. I found this lens to be really sharp and a pleasure to use. The lens has a nice feel to has a nifty lock mechanism that creates a tension on the zoom so that it won’t drop down when the lens is pointed towards the ground. Since owning it my f2.8 70-200 mm has been left on the shelf. It is about the same size and weight as the f2.8 70-200 and fits into my camera bag just fine. I love having a 400mm lens in my kit because it helps me make photographs that many people can't make without using their legs too. Great for multiple exposures. !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fantastic piece of glass I have owned a number of large tele lenses, but the 100-400 stands alone in its combination of outstanding optics whilst staying super light. I know a lot of seasoned wildlife photographers who swear by this lens. Its great value, super sharp and very wieldy. Great for wildlife, sports and can even be a great long portrait lens.
